Contract: full-time (40 h / week), initially fixed-term for 2 years followed by the option of a subsequent employment contract with an infinite duration

Our primary school offers a high-quality education programme for over 340 children aged 6 to 11. It supports each student’s personal, social, academic, physical and emotional development in an internationally oriented context. In our primary school an international curriculum is used to ensure that we provide a clear and consistent curriculum that appropriately challenges the students.
Your tasks and responsibilities
  • Create a safe and stimulating learning environment in which the EAL students can discover and develop their intellectual, physical, social and creative potential
  • Promote the motto of our school “learning to be a citizen of the world”, so that students develop the skills to think and act with openness to the perspectives, values and traditions of other cultures and communities, and thus develop an international understanding
  • Develop EAL best practices in the Primary School through sharing expertise, experience and resources
  • Teach and deliver language support in EAL to specific grades across the Primary School in small groups or individually
  • Administer initial English as Additional Language assessment for new students and provide information related to the admissions process
  • Ensure that wherever possible, intervention is preceded by pre-assessment and concluded with post-assessment to ensure effectiveness of interventions
  • Provide authentic and formative feedback through which your students can improve their understanding and develop their higher-order thinking skills through the subject you are teaching them
  • Develop positive and effective relationships with students and their families
  • Support the development of all primary school classes as EAL specialist by sharing expertise, experiences and resources with colleagues
  • Play an active role in a collaborative community striving for effective teaching for conceptual learning through guided inquiry, one in which students can not only gain outstanding academic results but also see their worth and value in the real world
  • Work as a contributing member of the EAL team and Primary School to ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place and delivered uniformly
  • Work as a contributing member of Leipzig International School to ensure a cohesive approach to learning
Your profile
  • A University degree in Primary Education, with an endorsement for teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL or equivalent)
  • Valid Teaching License
  • High competency in verbal and written communication skills as well as the use of IT and new technologies
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • At least 3 years of EAL teaching experience working in an internationally-minded and diverse school community 
  • Experience in co-planning and co-teaching EAL instruction models
  • Committed to our students and their learning, well-being and safety
  • Committed to developing a clear and challenging holistic educational programme for our students
  • Positive, encouraging and able to motivate students of diverse backgrounds  
  • Able to differentiate and deliver a quality learning experience to students with a range of abilities
