Contract: full-time (40 hours per week), initially fixed-term for 2 years followed by the option of a subsequent employment contract with an infinite duration

The Hort Leader is responsible for the leadership, educational direction and operational management of the school-time Hort (7:00–8:00 and 15:15–17:00) as well as the Holiday Hort programme during school holidays. The role ensures a safe, inclusive and high-quality environment that supports the social, emotional and developmental needs of Primary School learners. In close collaboration with the Primary School Principal, the Hort Leader also plays a key role in the Educator in Class (EiC) programme during the school day (8:00–15:15), ensuring coherence between Hort and classroom learning environments. The Hort Leader leads, develops and supports the Hort team, ensuring professional excellence, strong collaboration and consistent alignment between Hort and Primary School.The role combines educational leadership, staff development, safeguarding responsibility, operational management and cross-school collaboration. 

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the school-time Hort and Holiday Hort programmes, ensuring a safe, inclusive and engaging environment for all children.

  • Provide pedagogical and operational leadership for the Hort team, including staff development, induction and performance support.

  • Ensure high-quality learning and recreational experiences that support students’ social, emotional and developmental needs.

  • Coordinate the day-to-day organisation of the Hort, including staffing, scheduling and operational processes.

  • Further develop the Hort educational concept in alignment with school priorities and Saxony’s educational requirements.

  • Work closely with the Primary School Leadership Team to ensure coherence between the Hort and the Educator in Class (EiC) programme.

  • Promote positive behaviour, student wellbeing and social-emotional learning across the Primary School and Hort settings.

  • Manage the Hort budget, resources and administrative processes in collaboration with internal departments.

  • Foster strong partnerships with students, parents, teachers and colleagues across the school community.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Care, Social Work, Social Pedagogy or a comparable qualification, such as State Approved Educator or Childhood Pedagogue according to the qualification regulations of the State of Saxony.

  • Leadership experience in an educational setting.

  • Strong organisational skills and a structured, independent working style.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in an international environment.

  • A collaborative mindset, initiative and a passion for continuous improvement.

  • Commitment to student wellbeing and inclusive education.

  • Fluency in both English and German.
